Everyone is wiser in the morning

Our lecture this week was on Russian fairy tales. It was great. Nadia gave us a history of Russian fairy tales and really set the scene by describing long dark Russian winters several hundred years ago. No electricty, only about four hours of daylight a day and too cold to spend long periods of time outside. What to do..except tell fairy tales that out parents and grandparents told us. With the lights out, a candle burning, the misty rain and a cloudy day...I was there. After giving us the background Dasha and Olga each told us a fairy tale. We then watched a movie made in 1944 about a Russian fairy tale. What a great way to start the day. The two hightlights of the day was the description of the main charcter in many Russian fairy tales, Ivan the Fool, and the morale of one of the fairy tales "Everyone is wiser in the morning" (sleep on it). It is funny how so many of the fairy tales and charcters are similiar.

What a great way to start my fifth week in Yaroslavl.
