Auschwitz
Almost 1,500,000, 1.5 million, people died here between 1940 and 1945. 75% of those were sent to the gas chamber as soon as they got off the train. They were told they were taking a shower and instead they were gases. The strong were used in the work camps of for human experimentation. The average person sent to the work camp lived for less than three months. At the hieght of the excutions, over 400,000 people were killed, mostly Hungarion Jews, in less than 60 days.
The bodies were stripped of all clothes, gold and silver teeth, and the womens hair was shaven before the bodies were burnt. 40 store rooms were used to store the stolen goods until they could be used. The museum has one full room of shoes, another of suitcases, childrens clothes, womens hair etc on display. The horror is unbelievable. When the camp was freed there was over 7 tons, 14000 pounds, of hair waiting to be sent back to Germany to be used in the textile industry.
